Background

Before you can use any of the PiCosm collaborative features such as assigning tasks to other people (‘resources’), everyone will need their own Personal Pi account. (A Location Pi account will work too, however, these are suited to businesses, lack some consumer focused features and require a larger investment.) If you are the project manager in a business or other organisation, you should ideally use a Location Pi account so that if you leave another person can take over.

For any two or more people to collaborate, they need to ‘pair’ their Pi accounts with each other.

Pairing

Paring should only be done whilst each person is in contact with the other, such as: In person, over the phone, text chat, via email or other mutually verifiable communications medium. This is because as part of our strict privacy and no unsolicited notifications policy, it is not possible for one Pi user to make a notification based contact request with another Pi user.

  1. Input the Pi of the contact into the field at the top of the form and click the Resolve Resolve Pi icon.
  2. Ask your contact to input your Pi into the same field in their Pi account Contact manager and to click their Resolve Pi icon.
  3. The contact’s name and Pi will appear on your Contact list. If not, perform a page reload. The other person should also see your name and Pi in their contacts list. Once done, you can end any communications with the other party and continue the next steps or continue to pair other contacts.

Assign projects

The next step is to link the appropriate contacts with any projects you may be working on together.

  1. Click the PROJECTS dropdown menu below the contact name. A list of the tags you configured and marked as projects earlier will appear.
  2. Select the project(s) for that contact.

Set contact role

  1. To specify what the contact is allowed to do as part of their relationship with you, click the PERMISSIONS menu below their name.
  2. Depending on the Pi functionality at the time, one or more options will appear below the ALLOW heading – Task assignments at the very least.
  3. To allow the contact to assign you tasks, set the checkbox to ON.

Configuring privacy

If you have a Location Pi account, you may specify who can see what on your Pi Card. This information is extracted from your Pi Profile and Tags form.

  1. First of all, specify the PUBLIC PERMISSIONSPublic refers to information in your account that will be made visible to anyone visiting the Pi website if they are not logged into Pi or do not have a Pi account.
  2. Next specify the sharing permissions for any Pi contacts you wish to share one or more item of information with.NOTE: PUBLIC PERMISSIONS override contact permissions. For example, if you choose to share your landline phone number and street address with the public, then ALL your contacts will also be able to view this information. If there is information you would rather not share with the public or specific people (such as your post code and/or mobile phone number), then ensure those items are not selected on the PUBLIC PERMISSIONS dropdown menu at the top of the Contact Manager form.

How will people find your profile?

Location Pi only

There are a number of ways people can find or directly view your profile:

  • Inputting keywords into the Search field. For example, Post Office Anytown or French Restaurant Anytown (Your Public tags are used by Search)
  • Inputting your Pi (number) into the Search field.
  • At your PiCosm URL, for example, PiCosm.com/832837726
  • Using Pi Radar  to scan the area around a Pi account holder and show locations associated with their profile. For example, if they had purchased a BMW and logged it in PiCosm Acquisitions, Pi Radar will show any BMW dealers in their area. Pi Radar will also show a list of useful locations, such as Hospitals and Railway Stations.
